The Preference for the Sedentary

I was born into a digital age. From infancy I was surrounded by the wonders of technology. It has become a lifestyle to be connected to a device at all times. The broadness and the depth of the internet has become a fascination for me. It is simply unimaginable how the trove of knowledge and information has grown in the years the net has existed. The increasing quality and fun of video games have become as fun as playing sports outside - only with much less hassle. Because of this, I have grown a preference for lazing around instead of adopting a physical lifestyle.

However, there is a need for physical activity in our daily routines. Our bodies were meant to be out there running, jumping, and staying active. Our ancestors lived a very physical life, they had to hunt for food, build shelter, and various other activities pertaining to survival. We have developed a body system that encourages physical work. With a sedentary lifestyle, our body is thrown out of whack. With less use of energy, our food is stored as fat. Our muscles become weak and atrophied without regular exercise. Physical activities is as much a need as food, water, and shelter.

I have come to believe that a right balance is needed for those with a sedentary lifestyle. A combination of playing video games and yet still having sufficient time being outside is a hard ratio to manage. However, I encourage all of those who are sitting around reading this on their computer to look outside your window and wonder on the broadness and depth of the great outdoors.
